For several years, I sent out a blog to readers a few times a week. These posts gave pointers about how to practice, shared relevant stories, and provided a way for people to connect with my coaching approach. In 2022, I wrote my book, Before You Say Anything, which brought many of these ideas together in one place. The blog posts have continued to resonate with clients and readers, and they're useful as a quick reminder, so I'm including them here!

When I was in high school I had a great history teacher who taught us a lot of lessons, big and small.

One was this:

When you are spelling something out loud, pause at the end of a syllable. Don’t spell ‘intermittent’ INTE-RMITT-ENT. Spell it INTER-MIT-TENT. Our minds understand certain combinations of letters better than others, so make it easy.

(I have no idea why this came up in 10th grade World History; I just know that it did.)

In other words, think about what you’re doing in a way that is oriented toward the person it’s for.
