For several years, I sent out a blog to readers a few times a week. These posts gave pointers about how to practice, shared relevant stories, and provided a way for people to connect with my coaching approach. In 2022, I wrote my book, Before You Say Anything, which brought many of these ideas together in one place. The blog posts have continued to resonate with clients and readers, and they're useful as a quick reminder, so I'm including them here!

When people come to us for communication skills coaching, they start by telling us how bad they are at it.

“I’m not a confident public speaker.”
“I can’t seem to get my voice in the room.”
“I know I use a lot of filler words.”
“My boss told me I talk too fast.”
“My team doesn’t seem to be listening to me.”
“I’ve just never been good at speaking in public.”

The cornerstone of our coaching is that you’re already doing so many things right. You have strengths as a communicator, or you never would have gotten this far.

What are your strengths? What do you love about how you connect with others? When are you at your best? When are you comfortable simply opening your mouth and talking?

Let’s start there.
