What are you thinking about when you’re listening to someone speak?

For several years, I sent out a blog to readers a few times a week. These posts gave pointers about how to practice, shared relevant stories, and provided a way for people to connect with my coaching approach. In 2022, I wrote my book, Before You Say Anything, which brought many of these ideas together in one place. The blog posts have continued to resonate with clients and readers, and they're useful as a quick reminder, so I'm including them here!

Are you waiting for your turn?

Are you sifting through their words looking for just what you need to refute their point?

Are you running through your story, joke, or introduction?

The most miraculous thing between two people is when we can stop running our own agenda, let go of our fear, and just listen. In that act of bravery, of trust, we create the opportunity for something new to happen.

When we tune the other person out and listen to the echo chamber of our own thoughts, there’s no miracle. Just the same words we’ve heard a million times.

Don’t look at the rocks.
